The Confederation of Indian Industry is pleased to be associated with China Trade News of CCPIT in the compilation of The Special Issue on China-India on the occasion of the visit of Prime Minister of India,Mr Narendra Modi, to China in May 2015. Closely following the State visit of President Xi Jinping to India in September 2014,Prime Minister Modi’s visit is yet another transformational milestone in bilateral relations。
Our two large developing countries share close bonds going back to ancient times, and have revitalized these ties in the modern era to shape a dynamic and thriving engagement. Today,India and China are both seen as leaders on global dialogue platforms, drivers of economic growth, and important players in meeting global challenges。
Guided by the governments of both countries, the bilateral economic relationship has gone from strength to strength, with merchandise trade expanding multiple times to stand at US $70 billion in 2014. Equally, the investment relationship has been widening to include more sectors and more regional geographies,as more and more companies explore opportunities in each other’s economies. Exciting times are ahead as we are aware that investments are much below potential and can be scaled up considerably。
The leadership of both countries is also cognizant that bilateral trade needs to be more balanced. Towards this, innovative new areas of economic engagement are being explored by both sides, including investment in industrial corridors, railway cooperation, IT and agri-produce,to name a few. The corporate sectors and small and medium enterprises would play a strong role in making trade and investment more sustainable and are keen to engage more closely with each other。
CII strongly believes that the India-China economic partnership is central to the prosperity and development of the Asian region, and indeed, the world. Over the years,we have developed a mutually-beneficial working relationship with Chinese government bodies, institutions and industry and reach out through various interactions and platforms to forge a diverse and well-rounded engagement, including at the provincial level。
We are proud to work with CCPIT across multiple initiatives. I take this occasion to wish our friends in Chinese industry all success in their ventures in India and look forward to your continued interest and engagement。
